This is when outreach is performed to earn backlinks to your site. The situations in which this occur can be if your domain name changes, a re-branding occurs, or when your brand is mentioned online (in an article, blog post, etc.) & there is no link from the mention going back to your website. When this happens, reach out to the blogger, news outlet, or webmaster & request that a link to your site be added in to the appropriate anchor text.
